Scientific positioning

A journal built around causal chemical interactions

JAI is being redesigned for a field that now extends far beyond classical germination bioassays.

The renewed journal will focus on the chain linking compounds to exposure, mechanisms, environmental context and ecological or agronomic consequences. It aims to provide a common home for research that is currently fragmented across plant science, soil biology, chemical ecology and crop protection.

Scientific territory

One interaction, many scales

JAI identity

Chemistry becomes interaction only when the pathway is demonstrated.

The visual language of the New Series follows the same idea as its editorial standard: discrete chemical signals are connected through release, environmental transformation, biological response and ecological consequence.

Launch architecture · preview

Designed for the first papers of the New Series

The relaunch is designed around four core formats: Original Research, Reviews, Perspectives and Methods. A controlled launch would combine commissioned anchor content with selective original research, prioritising scientific coherence over publication volume.

Reviews & Perspectives

Anchor the field

Invited synthesis and forward-looking pieces can establish the scientific standard of the relaunch.

Original Research

Demonstrate the pathway

Priority for studies that match the strength of their claims to the evidence, ideally connecting chemistry, realistic exposure, mechanism and ecological or agronomic meaning.

Call for papers

Launch collection

A future call can be activated here once publisher, editorial board and submission arrangements are confirmed.

Evidence

Beyond phytotoxicity

Stronger causal claims should be supported by stronger evidence linking compounds, realistic exposure and biological outcome.

Integration

Plant · soil · microbe

JAI will encourage work that connects biological scales rather than treating chemistry, physiology and ecology in isolation.

Community

International by design

The New Series is conceived around a geographically diverse, gender-balanced and scientifically complementary editorial community.

The Journal

Continuity without pretending there was no interruption.

The New Series preserves the Original Series as part of JAI’s history while defining a new scientific standard for a field that has changed substantially.

Original Series

The historical archive is an asset, not a footnote.

The original JAI issues remain accessible and clearly distinguished from the future New Series, preserving the journal's first publication period while the relaunch is developed.
